Cherie Mittenthal

Cherie Mittenthal “Stormy with Found Boat”, encaustic, mixed media, 16 x 16 inches, 2024

“Much of my work evokes a sense of place, inspired by the elemental meeting of sky, sand, and sea. Recurring themes include houses, boats, birds, and flowers—especially tulips and amaryllis. Most recently, dogs have also emerged as a meaningful presence in my work.” Cherie Mittenthal

PATRICIA BUSSO

Patricia Busso, untitled 8 x 8 inches, oil and cold wax

“I call this series “found landscapes” because each one is the result of additive and subtractive meanderings in an open-ended search for place. These paintings were very much process-driven, with color and materials at the forefront. While every piece began with a chosen palette, they inevitably evolved into something entirely different, which was exciting; like driving without a map.” Patricia Busso

Karen Gausch “Miniscape 03”, 4 x 6 inches, encaustic on panel 2024,

These “dune-scapes” of motion and texture were inspired and created by observing dramatic settings where land transitions and slopes to meet water. My painting process is itself trying to capture the energy of a place with different mediums and layering techniques. My encaustic technique involves adding colored pigments into a melted wax medium.  I work the surfaces quickly and with intention while inviting chance, letting the materials draft images into existence.  During the process of layering, brushing, heating, and scraping, the subjects take shape, coming in and out of focus.
