JAY MCDERMOTT
June 6th through June 18th
Opening Reception Saturday,
June 8th 6-8 pm
Seeing the world as an interaction of color and shape has been the premise for this body of work. Movement occurs when we fill in an expectation of what those shapes and colors are doing. Then we can see action in a static presentation.
I use color as the primary voice and the shapes in which those colors are presented as the narrative that voice is sharing. The components are mostly simplified, relying on the movement of line and communication amongst the different colors to present the story.
There are two layers of communication, first the color story and then the imagery they present. These generate an imaginary world, easily identified as a place or a thing, but absolutely demanding the viewer interpret through their own experience and perceptions.
